Honestly! Humans have no clue how much time, energy and just plain manipulation a book puts into getting itself written. I mean really! It took me (Yoga for Every Room in Your House, aka YFERIYH) decades to get my words on paper and years more to get from raw manuscript to a book you can hold in your hands.
Now, you might think that getting written is the hard part for a book. And it can be difficult. But once you’ve gotten yourself written, you have to sometimes work even harder to keep the author’s interest up, and keep him or her engaged in getting to the publishing stage. And even if the author really is engaged, so many of them are introverts, even extreme introverts, who shy away from the knocking on doors (or writing letters, or e-mails or, heaven forbid, picking up the phone) it takes to find an agent or a publisher, or even just a printer!
Given how poorly understood a book’s efforts towards getting into human hands are, I thought I’d coerce my author into writing down my autobiography for me. Just so you can get an idea of exactly how hard a book works to get born!
