Epitaph Composer: Carol Singer; Lyrics: Sarah Williams
Voicing: SSA a cappella
Difficulty: 1 (on scale of 1-5 where 5 is most difficult)
Duration: 0.47 Although often attributed to Galileo, the text of this piece is taken from the poem, The Old Astronomer to His Pupil, by Sarah Williams (1837-1868). The title "Epitaph" was chosen because these four lines have also been used as text on grave markers by a number of people. The piece is extremely short, and I have been threatening to write a longer work that would incorporate it. But even as short as it is, it stands up well on its own. Text: Though my soul may set in darkness
It will rise in perfect light
I have loved the stars too fondly
